I believe once we become more self-aware, we become more mindful. A component of mindfulness is choosing to cultivate that awareness. When combined with attention to the present moment, approaching thoughts or events with curiosity, patience, and even non-judgment allows us to respond more thoughtfully, rather than simply reacting. This practice informs our mindset, helps shape and reshape how we navigate the challenges we are presented with, and allows us to be present for our life experiences.
